Formatting text in the database
When formatting your database, you should allow for as much space as possible in the fields of your database columns. Set text fields to maximum character lengths to accommodate text that may expand after translation into another language. In the database for Chuzzlewit Brothers Chocolates, the description field is set to the Memo data type (not Text) because a Memo field can accommodate a much larger number of characters.
For more information on issues of text expansion and contraction, see "Accounting for text expansion and contraction" in Optimizing the Dreamweaver localization process 1: Page design and layout.
