We’ve added 2,000+ 3D Models on Substance 3D Assets!
These ready-to-texture models are designed for staging and kitbashing.
Importance of 3D models
3D models are essential in a scene. They give context to an element, add details around a main asset, and thus create a strong narrative to the composition.
However, modeling all the details of an object in 3D takes time. When you’re creating a scene, it is not really worth focusing on every single object: you’ll want to keep all your time and energy to get the details perfect on your project’s hero asset.
To make your life easier, this brand new collection of 3D models lets you find the props you need to create scenes for interior design, retail space and stores, fill entire video game levels with props and objects, or simply script a composition for product marketing.
No preparation is needed to texture in Stager: the library’s 3D models are ready to texture. They are available in FBX format, which can be opened in Painter, Stager, or any other application that is part of your 3D workflow.
Where you can use these new 3D models
The main use case of this library is what we call virtual photography. Or, in other words, 3D photography! This term covers all creative practices whose purpose is to generate visual content for presentation.
This includes images for illustration, communication, marketing, and design, as well as any creative visualization.
For example, this might involve a 3D pre-concept visualization for a product designer. Or it could be 2D, 3D, and traditional photography integration in marketing content composition. Or maybe asset look dev for entertainment, as well as all the in-betweens imaginable in each creative discipline. And the models are fairly light, so you could easily use them to populate a real-time environment!
In short, it’s assembling (or kitbashing) objects and putting them together in a 3D scene to tell a visual story. Traditionally, the realization of this kind of visual requires the production of a prototype, the organization of a photo shoot, and the acquisition of accessories to furnish the scene.
Well, it works virtually the same in 3D. However, modeling all the secondary objects for a scene requires time. Time that is better allocated to the main elements of the scene, whether it is a product, a character, or a building.
Artists should be able to concentrate as much as possible on their own creation! For the rest there are the Substance 3D assets.
We have chosen to harmonize the density of each mesh (poly-count) towards a “mid-poly”.
Indeed, the objects must be sufficiently detailed to offer a realistic rendering, while being optimized so they don’t unnecessarily weigh down the scene, especially in the case of a realtime use, as it is the case in video games.
How to use 3D models?
The objects are basically a canvas for you to play with: they’re ready to be textured.
However, the UVs are already deployed. That means that you don’t need to prepare the mesh: once it’s open in Substance 3D Stager, you can drag and drop materials straight on it. Or, with a bit of preparation, you can pick up a brush in Painter to perform more advanced texturing.
Of course, nothing stops you from changing any aspect of the model in your favorite application and tailoring it further to your needs.
And that’s the most important thing! You can do whatever you want with the library’s 3D models! There is no limitation of use for any type of project. Marketing, commercials, movies, video games — you have complete freedom!
Assemble, decompose, mix, or spice up the models with your own creations. Here are some examples from the last material collections in which we used some of the 3D models that are now available.
Each project is unique and the choice of materials makes the same object an infinite number of possibilities of style and use. That’s why we let you customize the assets as you want, from mesh to texturing.
With the apps and the nearly 9,000 Substance materials, texturing will be much easier. At the very least, it’s a source of inspirational objects to get your hands on in Painter and test the latest painting features.

Other vitally important criteria for these 3D models are modularity and complementarity! Modularity, because we have designed this library as a kitbash of generic ingredients that allow you to build different types of scenes in a multitude of different universes.
Some items are actually kits of several separate segments that can be assembled to form complex structures.
