This is a portrait of my cousin Marie, a fearless fighter on the frontlines. Marie is a nurse in NYC who got COVID-19 from a patient early on in the outbreak. As soon as she recovered, she went back to work at the hospital to help save more lives. She faces fear every day to save our lives. Her sacrifice left me inspired and hopeful during a time of such uncertainty. With this portrait, I hope people are able to recognize that healthcare professionals like my cousin risk their lives every day so that we can keep ours. This work says thank you to Marie and all healthcare workers on the frontlines. Not everyone could do what they are doing. And what they’re doing is saving everyone. Thank you for being our heroes.
