X has said, or at least Elon Musk has, that the long-term vision for X (formerly Twitter) is to be “X, the everything app”. As a result, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that one of many new features recently added to X is the ability to apply for jobs and recruit for new roles within the platform. The shift in focus is an interesting one, aligning itself more closely as a competitor to LinkedIn, as well as speaking volumes to how X wants to pivot its reputation into a trustworthy space for people to find career opportunities.
But does LinkedIn really have anything to worry about? And are people really applying for jobs through X? Let’s talk about it.
What to know about X Hiring
“X Hiring” is said to have over 1.5 million job listings on X currently. But is that really a measure of success?
While job hunting on X sounds like a great idea in theory, it remains to be seen whether the platform holds the necessary amount of support and trust from reputable establishments who may choose to look elsewhere for their next newest hire.
With job seekers able to search using keywords, location, and other criteria, X Hiring will also make use of AI to match candidates to jobs helping to put the right person into the right role for them. It’s not quite LinkedIn, but it’s certainly a good start.
X Hiring versus LinkedIn
Naturally, LinkedIn remains the industry leader when it comes to social media recruitment, and it’s hard to imagine that changing in the near future. While X’s “everything app” ambitions might help to bring more users to the platform, it does come with the drawback of presenting a “jack of all trades, master of none” mentality which can actually make it harder to compete with the likes of LinkedIn who is nothing if not renowned for its job seeking and recruitment capabilities. To elaborate even further - because LinkedIn is the go-to platform for recruitment, it will always be the place where the majority of job listings are advertised. Job seekers will go where the most job listings are.

Is X Hiring worth a try?
Is there any benefit to trying X Hiring? Actually, yes there is. We all know that different social media platforms tend to attract different audiences and demographics, and X is no exception. If you are someone who has a thriving presence on X that reflects well on your in your professional life then X Hiring might be a natural place for you to seek your next career opportunity – especially if you want a hiring manager to be aware of your X profile/content and favor your application based on what they find there. The same goes for businesses who hold X as a high-value component in their social media wheelhouse as a way to advertise open roles in the place where their primary audience lives – without needing to direct them to LinkedIn or another website. In fact, advertising for open roles on any social media platform other than LinkedIn can be a great way to broaden the scope of your search by getting your new opportunity in front of passive candidates who weren’t actively job seeking.
