Meta is changing its content rules

Meta has announced that it will be discontinuing its third-party fact-checking program and moving to a “Community Notes” method of content moderation (much like X) allowing users to clarify posts by leaving notes on content. Meta has also said it’s intending to bring more political content back into its apps with new and updated moderation guidelines featuring new instruction on what can be said by users within Meta apps.

Meta is currently showing users AI depictions of themselves in imagined scenarios using user’s selfies to encourage interest in AI image tools.

Meta enhances Meta AI with memory features

A new feature will allow Meta AI to remember particular details shared in 1 on 1 chats with WhatsApp and Messenger that will allow it to personalize its responses in the future.

Meta testing eBay listings in Facebook Marketplace

In an effort to better align with EU competition laws relating to marketplace listings, Facebook is now testing eBay listings within Facebook marketplace.

Instagram shares key areas of focus in 2025

Instagram chief, Adam Mosseri has outlines Instagram’s areas of focus for 2025 stating that the platform’s two key areas of focus will be “creativity” and “connection”. Mosseri explains that Instagram intends to embrace new technologies such as AI while also rewarding creative content more by focusing ranking on things like originality.

Instagram expands length of Reels to 3 minutes

Due to feedback from creators, Instagram has made the decision to expand the length of Reels to 3 minutes.

Instagram to release video editing app

In light of the uncertainty around the future of TikTok, and by extension the ByteDance owned editing app CapCut, Instagram has announced that it will be releasing its own video editing app “Edits” as an alternative video editing app.

Instagram adds new feature for easily translating DMs

A new translation option will allow users to easily translate DMs into their chosen language without leaving the app.

X plans to launch “X Money” in limited form in 2025

Despite X struggling to get payment transmitter licenses for all states across the US, according to new findings in the back-end code of the app, X is thought to be pushing ahead with X Money regardless, by launching it in selected US states for now.

LinkedIn adds new AI tools to assist job seekers and recruiters

A new “Job Match” tool will show job seekers how their listed skills match an advertised role and what they can do to maximize their potential of getting an interview. LinkedIn Premium subscribers will also be able to see insights into how they compare against other applicants. LinkedIn’s new recruitment AI agent will also assist smaller businesses with the recruitment process by simplifying job listings, connecting with candidates, and reviewing applications.

LinkedIn shares insight into most in-demand jobs and skills

LinkedIn has published a new “Jobs on the rise” report detailing which roles are being listed the most on LinkedIn and which skills are most in demand. The report lists “AI Engineer” and “AI Consultant” as the two fastest-growing job listings in the app, while skills such as “Customer Service” and “Event Planning” are some of the most desirable at this time. LinkedIn updates requirements for “Top Voice” badges

Members awarded a “Top Voice” badge within the app will only retain their badge for six months, with regular reviews from LinkedIn. This will encourage users to remain consistent in their contributions to retain their badge.

LinkedIn is expanding its test of a news banner in the mobile app which provides a rotating headline summary of trending news that displays above the main feed.

TikTok

TikTok ban in US delayed for 75 days

After app access in the US was removed for a brief period on Sunday the 19th of January, President Trump has since granted TikTok a 75- day extension on the original bill timeline to find an alternative arrangement to keep TikTok in the US.

TikTok adds more generative AI features

TikTok has added more generative AI features including “AI Group shot” which enables users to add images of themselves and friends to a template as well as “AI self” which allows users to create AI images using a selfie. TikTok is said to be working on the ability to convert your images into memes, as well as adding AI enhancements to editing and creation tools such as AI-based suggestions for video captions.
