How to use Text to Pattern.
- Open {{illustrator}}.
If you don’t have an Illustrator subscription, sign up for a free trial. If you have Illustrator, make sure to update your app to get all the latest features like Text to Pattern. - Locate the Text to Pattern tools.
Create a new project in Illustrator or open a pre-existing one. Text to Pattern will appear as Generate Patterns in the Properties panel and in Object > Patterns > Generate Patterns. To open Text to Pattern panel, go to Window > Generate Patterns. - Generate your pattern.
Type a description like “flora and fauna on navy blue” into the prompt field in the Generate Patterns panel. Click Generate. Thumbnails of graphic options will appear in the Generate Patterns panel. Select an option to view it on your canvas. Learn more about how to write AI art prompts that get results. - Fine-tune your results.
Adjust the settings before you generate to get a specific outcome. Choose a Color Preset, number of colors, or specific colors to include in your pattern. Choose from an effect preset like geometric to create patterns with that effect. - Edit your seamless pattern.
Once you've generated a pattern you like, you can perform quick edits like grouping and ungrouping shapes, duplicating objects, or recoloring. Select Recolor to open the Recolor panel, where you can adjust hues manually, or choose the Generative Recolor option to explore new color palettes with text prompts. Finish your design and save it to your swatch library to use anywhere. - Go further.
Add the generated pattern to your swatch library to apply the pattern to your work. A generated pattern is just the beginning — use the many precise editing tools in Illustrator to make your image your own.
