Fonts and typography are an important yet often subtle piece of any design project. Finding the right font for your design can often be tedious and frustrating. Thankfully, Adobe XD integrates with a portfolio of thousands of fonts through Adobe Fonts and syncs them automatically to your projects in Adobe XD.
Let's take a look at how easy font discovery and activation can be within Adobe Fonts. Adobe Fonts provide unlimited access to thousands of fonts and curated font packs, all included in your Creative Cloud subscription. If you're looking for fonts from a particular foundry, Adobe Fonts also includes typefaces created by popular foundries, like Google and IBM, making it easy to use these fonts in your XD projects. If you're not sure where to begin looking, Adobe's font packs allow you to activate and use a set of curated fonts for specific applications. For instance, if I was working on an UX-based design project working with web or mobile applications, the Adobe Type team has a wonderful, curated package of 16 fonts just for this. Opening this font pack up, each individual font can be previewed in action at the top of the page. Selecting a font tile will highlight its presence in the sample art. Scrolling below the header, each typeface in the pack is displayed individually. Clicking "View Family" will open a detail view allowing activation of individual fonts. I think this pack is going to be perfect for my next project, so I'll activate the entire font pack by clicking the Activate toggle on the right. With this toggle activated, all the fonts in this pack will now sync to my Creative Cloud account and will appear in the font selection drop-down in Adobe XD and other Creative Cloud applications.
Discover more font packs by clicking the font packs menu item at the top of the page and discover hundreds of font collections. If you know the font you'd like to activate or simply want to browse all available options, Adobe fonts provides an easy-to-use browsing interface. Visual filters on the left allow you to easily narrow down a search to find the style and classification of font you're looking for. Live font previews allow for sample text entry to see how a font will look with real copy. To activate a particular font, click the card or the "View Family" button to open the Family Detail view. Fonts can then be activated individually with the toggle on each card or as a family by using the Activate Fonts button in the top right. At any time, I can view active and previously active fonts in the Creative Cloud desktop app, making reactivation simple and easy.
With these newly activated fonts synched to Creative Cloud, I can now return to Adobe XD to begin using them in my project. With my text selected, clicking the Font drop-down in the Properties Inspector will reveal these new font families. Since my project now uses Adobe Fonts, when someone else opens this project file, these new fonts will be activated automatically in their Creative Cloud, saving the hassle of sharing or finding missing fonts between team members.
Whether you're working on a project with defined fonts from popular foundries or getting creative and exploring one of the thousands of fonts in the catalogue, Adobe Fonts has you covered as you create amazing experiences in Adobe XD.
