Create a hoverboard effect

See how you can use Adobe After Effects to apply a track matte to a video captured on the go to create a hoverboard effect like the one seen in “Back to the Future.”

  1. Shoot your sequence twice, with and without your moving subject.

  2. Import those background and foreground clips into After Effects.

  3. Go to Layer > New > Solid and use this to create a mask for the wheels or part of the footage you want to remove.

  4. Go to Window > Tracker and connect the anchor point of the solid to the wheels. In the Tracker panel click Track Motion.
