Adobe XD is the only experience design platform that offers native integrations with other Creative Cloud apps like Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects. In the latest release of Adobe XD we're taking this further by enhancing the integration with Photoshop allowing you to open and edit images from your XD designs directly in Photoshop and then update them in real time. Let me show you what I mean.
I'm here in Adobe XD and I have a number of images here on the design canvas. They have different treatments applied to them. So in the center, I've got just a placed image. I've got that same image here on the right hand side where I've pasted it as a background fill inside a shape.
Towards the bottom, I have that same sort of background fill shape, but I've saved it out as a component and then I used the repeat grid feature to repeat it across the canvas and then come in and change out each of the individual images.
In all of these instances, I can come in and edit that image directly in Photoshop. What I want to do is make sure I select the image. So let's say I came here to this background fill, I'm going to go ahead and click until I get to the background image and with it selected in the right menu I'm going to come in and select edit in Photoshop.
If I didn't have Photoshop installed, this would be grayed out. Also, if Photoshop is not open already in the background, XD is going to open it up when I invoke the command. I'll go ahead and select edit in Photoshop and very quickly the image is passed over to Photoshop, where I can begin making my changes. Now, as I work here I can do any sort of sophisticated Photoshop work. I can play with blend modes. I can add masks. I can crop the image. Anything I do here though is going to get flattened before it's passed back over to XD.
I'll come in and make some simple edits just for the sake of time. Let's say, add just a cute little embellishment here to my friend Cody Brown. Looking good. Once I've made the changes that I'd like I can come on in and save that out. So, I'll pull down under file and just select save. I can even come in and close out that file.
When I come back to XD, I can see that the changes have been made here on the right hand side. If I click off, it applies the mask back again. Now, let's say down the road I decide that I don't like the change that I've made to Kody Brown. I can come in and just undo the change if it's something I've done recently in XD.
Alternatively, if I go back into Photoshop as long as I've kept Photoshop running in the background, it will remember the changes that I made to the image and allow me to use multiple levels of undo to undo anything I've done to the original file.
Well, if you love the power of Photoshop for image enhancement, you're going to really appreciate this new edit in Photoshop feature in Adobe XD. I encourage you to give it a try.
Sometimes a photo isn't quite right and edits need to be made. With the Adobe XD and Photoshop integration, editing a photo is as simple as right-clicking on an image in Adobe XD and selecting "Edit in Photoshop". Once Photoshop launches, the selected image will open automatically, allowing edits to be made. Once the file is saved in Photoshop, changes will be sent to Adobe XD without the need to export or import images between applications.
