Adobe recommends that you download the latest Adobe Product Update to ensure enhanced operation of your Adobe products. The August 2001 Adobe Product Update provides improved network performance and connectivity for all Adobe applications. It also includes the Adobe Studio Toolkit for improved interactivity with Resource Center services. Go to the downloads page.
How do Product Updates and Announcements work?
When you select Product Updates (or Downloadables for older products) from the Help or Adobe Online menu, a list of new information about your product is sent from Adobe's servers. This information is displayed in the Product Updates dialog. Critical updates will appear as an Announcement that displays the next time you start the application.
For ease of use, Adobe suggests that you select an automatic update frequency, so that you will be immediately notified of new product updates or upgrades. This check is done automatically and is designed not to disturb your workflow. If new product fixes, updates, or downloads are available, you will be notified the next time you launch your software or access the Adobe Online menu item. The notification will allow you to accept or reject any items to download.
How do I set the update frequency?
You can select when you want to be notified of fixes, updates, and downloads by setting your own update frequency (daily, weekly, monthly) in two easy steps:
- Select Online Preferences from the product preferences section of your Adobe application. (For older products, the Online Preferences are accessible by selecting Adobe Online).
- Set the update frequency to daily, weekly, or monthly.
Does Adobe collect any personal information?
The Product Updates feature does not collect any personal information. It will not scan your system for installed software, send system profile information to Adobe, or use cookies to store information.
What information is sent across the Internet?
Checking for Product Updates uses the same communication technology that your Web browser uses to connect to the Internet. When you enter a URL in a Web browser, a connection is made between your computer and the Web server that is associated with the URL. The Web server is able to send information back to your browser through the IP address that identifies your computer.
In a similar fashion, the Product Updates feature connects via a URL that is specific to that product. If any new information is available, it will be passed back to your computer and displayed in your product.
What happened to Adobe Online?
With the August 2001 Adobe Product Update, Adobe Online has been simplified to provide you faster access to product-related information. Selecting the Adobe Online menu item will now take you directly to the product page on Adobe.com that lists the latest information on tips, tutorials, and community events related to your product.
